Gotta Be a First': Curious Elk Gets Trapped on Trampoline

"...he decides to jump in for some fun!"

Greg Chase and his wife were just sitting down to their morning cup of coffee Monday in Evergreen, Colo., when they saw something unusual in their wooded backyard.

It wasn't the small herd of six elk that surprised them, but one young elk that had stepped onto the couple's trampoline -- and couldn't find its way off.

"...all of a sudden he decides to jump in for some fun!" Chase wrote about the incident in a description on his YouTube video. "Getting out proves to be a bit harder than getting in!!!"

While most of the herd seemed relatively unconcerned with their trapped friend's predicament, a few stuck close by.

"The elk's friend on the outside actually looks like he wants to get in and join the fun while the mom looks on," Chase wrote.

Eventually, the elk found its way back through the hole in the safety net through which it had entered. Once free, he and his friend who had been circling the trampoline ran far from the bouncy contraption.

"This has gotta be a first," Chase's wife said of the unusual incident.

Watch the elk's three-minute ordeal:

At one point, Chase's wife suggested shooting the elk, lest it get hurt in the trampoline's hole and suffer.

"...the only reason my wife suggested doing so was to keep it from suffering if it got too badly hurt due to the hole in the tramp," Chase wrote. "We recently watched in horror as a fox was strangled to death in our neighbor's soccer goal netting."
