The photos of the California mother's nearly 2-year-old son Beau and the "part boxer, part shepherd and part labrador retriever" Theo gained international attention, stunning Shyba.

“I'm completely flabbergasted," Shyba told KTVU-TV. “It's beyond anything I've ever dreamed.”

With the prevalence of negative news, Shyba said the photos have drawn a positive response because "it's sweet and it's innocent and it's lovely."

It started with one nap that bloomed into "the most organic and beautiful friendship I have ever witnessed," Shyba wrote on her blog, Mommy's Gone City.

"My family and I are completely humbled by all of the kindness and love that we have been shown over the last couple of days," Shyba wrote Sunday.
