OK, Time To Trot Out Those 'Awkward' and 'Bizarre' Family Holiday Portrait Photos

No family we know would pose dressed as the cast from the 1960s TV series "Lost In Space."

The hour has come to mine for some seasonal gold in the form of crazy, funny or just plain awkward family photos. Of course, most of the family snapshots sent around the world are just sweet portraits of your loved ones.

But within the exceptions lives the magic...

Thankfully, there are several websites that comb the Internet in search of these gems. One of our favorites is simply titled, Awkward Family Photos. Many of the images posted here can be found on the myriad pages containing uncomfortable shots on that website.

We've selected a few of our favorites.

Many of the photos feature babies or little ones who are not happy about sitting with Santa or just peeved in general:

Attending church services on Christmas also provides a moment to snap pretty shots…unless the foreground includes an unhappy congregant like "Larry," seen heating up a pew here:

Family photos dominate the collection. Although, no family we know would pose dressed as the cast from the 1960s TV series "Lost In Space":

That said, please meet the hot tub family. (It feels like something out of "Anchorman 2.")

The hot tub Christmas card is something to behold, but it's really just the beginning. So many images feature families in matching sweaters or pajamas. In this one, it appears that Dad was not lucky enough to score the same "jammies" as the rest of the crew...

...or they're just very, very visually tolerant.

On that note, men exposing too much skin in Christmas cards also isn't limited to family cards. Just last year, TheBlaze shared a holiday card from the U.S. Ambassador to Finland Bruce Oreck. The ambassador's holiday card was viewed by many as a little too, um, casual:

Oreck's 2013 card poked fun at the hubbub raised by the previous year's photo, and this year, he was the only one wearing clothes:

2013 also seems to have sparked interest in the family Christmas portrait re-enactment. This requires a family group locating a shot from years gone by and assembling the same family members, in the same pose, and if possible, in similar outfits:

Think the above shot is the ONLY re-creation on the site? Oh no, check out this beauty that tries to mirror a family photo from 15 years gone by:

And lest you assume that our Blaze family lacks what you might characterize as a "curious" holiday photo, on Christmas Day, Scott Baker, Editor-in-Chief of TheBlaze, delivered the goods via his Twitter account:

Scott was sporting a Christmas present received from his in-laws. It's the nearly impossible-to-find Brad Thor Alpha Jacket. Baker explained the pose with this tweet:

The week after Christmas is typically the time when many people take stock of the holiday cards they've received. And some of us are rushing out cards to those who sent them our way but, er, missed our list.

However, among all of those cards you may find a customized Christmas card that includes a family photo. We encourage you to send the odd or funny images our way. You can email them to mopelka@theblaze.com. If they match the "quality" of the above photos, they just might be added to this post.

The folks from Awkward Family Photos have also created an entertaining video montage of these curious pictures. Enjoy!
