Texas Gubernatorial Candidate Greg Abbott Responds to Attacks About His Disability Like a True Texan
January 23, 2014
"Denigrating the disabled is unworthy of Texas."
Appearing on "The Kelly File" Thursday night, Texas gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott responded to the video released by a conservative activist group showing supporters of his Democratic opponent, Wendy Davis, seemingly mocking his disability.
“Denigrating the disabled is unworthy of Texas," Abbott, a paraplegic, told host Megyn Kelly. "The reality is Texans look far beyond superficial appearances. What Texans really look at is depth of character."
He continued: "Megyn there’s a reason I have been elected statewide in Texas five different times. That’s because Texans know I have the quality and depth of character to represent their families and their values.”
Davis distanced herself from the comments captured on video, calling the remarks "abhorrent."
