A School Closing Announcement Like You've Never Heard Before

“Parents and students deserve a chuckle.”

Stephens Elementary School in Boone County, Ky., was hit with yet another school closing Monday due to severe winter weather. With so many closures already this year, administrators decided to spice it up their usually dry announcements.

"We like to have fun at our school. So, after several school closings due to snow and cold, we recorded this call to parents to see if we could make them laugh. I think we succeeded," the school posted on YouTube.

Principal James Detwiler and theater teacher Chad Caddell rocked out to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." The pair actually recorded the video in advance of the snow day, figuring the odds were good that they would have another one during the particularly harsh winter that has already closed schools in the district nine times.

“We’ve had several cancellations and delays this year and I just got tired of hearing my voice over and over again delivering that same message,” Detwiler told Cincinnatti.com. “Parents and students deserve a chuckle.”

Here are the lyrics:

We just got a call, breaking news.

School is closed. School is closed.

Sorry parents for another day.

Watch out for frostbiting, very, very frightening.

School is cancelled. School is cancelled. Because it's cold.

So everyone grab a Snuggie and watch TV or play the Wii and maybe read.
