Lisa Is A Slu* McIntire': Someone at Bank of America Really Messed Up With This Mail Address

A bizarre situation at Bank of America resulted in a California woman receiving a letter addressed to “Lisa Is A Slut McIntire.”

The letter, which was addressed to a feminist blogger named Lisa McIntire, was first noticed by her mother Thursday afternoon.

The letter, a credit card offer, was probably of minimal concern as the two pondered how the words “Is A Slut” ended up there.

McIntire's mother texted her: “'Interesting piece of junk mail addressed to you. ‘Lisa is a slut McIntire.’”

“Uh, what?” McIntire responded.

McIntire tweeted a picture of the letter to Bank of America’s customer service account and asked for an explanation.

The bank responded by saying it would look into the matter.

“We’re incredibly sorry this happened and are researching now so we can take the appropriate action,” Bank of America said in a tweet.

While confused by the entire ordeal, the freelance writer said she found it fairly amusing.

“February 6, 2014: the day my personal brand finally hit it big!' she joked in a tweet.

The Huffington Post offers a possible explanation: "McIntire's name had been changed in the database of the Golden Key International Honour Society, of which she's a member. The Society partnered with the bank on the credit card offer, shared the names in its database with the bank, and McIntire received the unusual (not to mention offensive) mailing."

A Golden Key representative told McIntire that the name change in the database occurred sometime between 2004 and 2008, but he couldn't explain why there was a name change.

The blogger said she was initially worried about the letter because, “I'm a feminist writer on the Internet."

"But I don’t think it's personal," she said.

Her Twitter fans offered additional theories about the address.

“Some poor data-entry clerk had a really rough break-up with his girlfriend Lisa (the slut),” one Twitter user said.

“Are you single? Your creditworthiness, among other things, is a turn on,” another joked.

McIntire’s mailer incident comes just weeks after a father who lost his daughter recently in a car accident received a piece of junk mail from Office Max addressed to, “Mike Seay, Daughter Killed in Car Crash.”

The father was disturbed by the fact that Office Max knew about his daughter’s death.

“What purpose does it serve anybody to know that? And how much other types of other information do they have if they have that on me, or anyone else? And how do they use that, what do they use that for?’ he asked.
