Make Sure You Have Tissues Handy Before You Watch This Navy Dad Stun His Daughter at Cheer Practice

These videos literally never get old.

Delainey Smith, a 17-year-old high school student from Salem, Wis., was so shocked to see her Navy dad at her cheer practice on Friday that all she could do was collapse and start crying. But those tears of joy were quickly accompanied by a smile once she was wrapped in her father’s arms.

FC1 U.S Navy Service Member William Smith wanted to make sure she remembered his homecoming, so he teamed up with the school to make it happen -- on Valentine's Day. The father and husband has been away for seven months serving on the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.

The cheer team at Delainey’s high school was preparing for a big upcoming competition so she thought nothing of it when the squad was enlisted to do an extra performance for parents. Little did she know, her own father would be the guest of honor.

In the video shot by WICI-TV, Delainey is seen locking eyes with her father before cupping her face in her hands and falling to the floor, crying out of shock and happiness. Smith said he expected a “tackle hug” from his daughter, but we think her reaction was even better.

"I'm happy that he's home and he actually gets to come to regional's," Delainey said.
