What a Reporter Told John Kerry About Putin Surprised Him So Much He Had to Ask If It Was True

"He really denied there were troops in Crimea?"

Secretary of State John Kerry appeared perplexed Tuesday when a reporter asked him about Russian President Vladimir Putin's denial that he has troops in the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea.

"He really denied there were troops in Crimea?" Kerry asked, responding to a question from NBC News' Andrea Mitchell.

"Yes, he did," Mitchell replied.

Kerry then nodded his head several times, appearing stunned to learn of Putin's denial, which happened hours before Kerry took the podium.
