Locked Out of Your Twitter Account? The Glitch That Led to an Accidental Email Warning

If you received a warning message from Twitter about a possible hack and are locked out of your account, fear not. You aren't a target — this time.

“Twitter believes that your account may have been compromised by a website or service not associated with Twitter ... We’ve reset your password to prevent accessing your account,” the warning email reads,  but the social media company told Re/code that the message was an error.

Re/code reported that a number of Twitter users received password reset request emails from the microblogging service on Monday evening after the users were temporarily locked out of their accounts.

The affected account holders were not immediately notified of the exact reason for the password reset request.

"We unintentionally sent some password reset notices tonight due to a system error,” a Twitter spokesman said. “We apologize to the affected users for the inconvenience.”

Twitter said the problem does not appear to be the result of a security breach and that the mass reset was accidentally triggered by the company itself, but Twitter users will have to resent their password to regain access to their account.

The glitch affected less than 1 percent of the company’s customers, according to Gizmodo.

Twitter did not immediately respond to TheBlaze for comment.
