Gunman Holds Up Couple, Begins to Sexually Assault Woman — Then Her Male Companion Makes Sure It's the Last Crime the Creep Ever Commits

"This is crazy."

New Orleans police said a man was shot dead with his own gun after he sexually assaulted a woman Thursday night, according to the Times-Picayune. And it was the woman's companion who exacted justice.

The assailant who was killed approached a couple on the street, brandishing a gun and demanding the pair walk to a building undergoing renovation, police said.

Once the gunman, 26, led the couple into the yard outside the building, WWL-TV in New Orleans reported, he began sexually assaulting the woman, police said.

But the woman's male companion got hold of the gunman's weapon and opened fire around 9:30 p.m., police said.

The man who shot the assailant was not identified, police said, adding that detectives interviewed him and the woman and made no arrests. The case will be turned over to prosecutors for review, police said, adding that they recovered the gun and are trying to learn where it came from.

"This is crazy," one area resident Diane Green told the Times-Picayune. "We consider this the quiet side."
