'Our Prayers Are With You' -- Blaze Readers React to Glenn Beck’s Docs Really Wrecking His Day: ‘Well, Basically, You Are Being Poisoned’

TheBlaze posted a story earlier this week after Glenn Beck's doctors told him he'll have to restrict his diet heavily, as his body is "being poisoned" by certain foods.

Beck was told to go gluten-free and avoid a long list of foods.

Here's what some readers of TheBlaze had to say about Beck’s health issues:

Doesn’t sound like he’s being “poisoned." It sounds like he’s got deficiencies and too much of other things. The body eating itself is often a symptom of not eating enough protein. The body has to get it from somewhere, and the closest source is muscle. Vegans have major problems with that.

It’s a shame I can’t talk to Beck for about five minutes. I have been dealing with this since I was 16 in one way or the other.

If what I heard on his show today — with the list of foods he is permitted to eat — is correct, he’s not going anywhere fast.

The trick to auto immune and foods is to do an elimination diet. Or, even better, my reverse elimination diet. In short you pig out on a favorite food and see what happens. If you get sick, you lay off for a week or two then pig out again. If you get sick a second time then you eliminate it.

Unfortunately, food can mess you over two days later as it works its way through your system. (So you must keep a diary.) Also, two different foods, each alone which don’t bother you, can combine to hurt you. So, eliminating the bad foods is not as simple as it sounds. It takes time, patience, and perseverance.

Then there are also environmental factors. A perfume or carpet dust, etc. could set you off.

Too much sugar in the gut can cause a yeast overgrowth. This is common and can inflame already sensitive tissue…making things like arthritis, etc. worse.

It’s ALL findable. Just takes time and knowledge.

Simply changing one diet for another won’t fix it and might cause it to get worse.

From what G says, he’s a typical auto-immune candidate. God help him when the pollen starts covering Dallas. It makes even well people sick and irritable.

Well, I didn’t go to a brain center, but a local “wellness” minded doctor two years ago at the age of 47 — because traditional medicine only treats symptoms, covers them up with pills. I did a “food intolerance test” that cost $800 and had the same results as Glenn. So for the commentator that said, “What do poor people do?” Well, I am not poor – I am blessed – but I am also not a millionaire. We pay $800 and we eat a few food items. I am sure I spend less on food then those who frequent fast food or load up with processed foods and junk snacks. It is not rocket science; it is common sense. You are what you eat.

I am sure this will be an ongoing nightmare for Glenn (and don’t get me wrong, I like Glenn) but this is not hard. Just eat a few, select whole foods, lose weight, clean your gut, and LIVE. It’s that simple. I don’t have (or require) a chef. It’s just me making whole food on a daily basis. After two weeks of my “diet,” I quit meds that I'd been on for 30 years and have stayed “clean” for two years. I also lost, and kept off, 20#.

Enjoy the clean life Glenn.

WELCOME TO MY LIFE GLENN!! I cant eat anything, it causes inflammation and pain! Quinoa, Millet, brown rice, veggies, nuts seeds, select fruits, water, tea, and lean clean meats. That's my diet. It will make you cry for the first year. You’ll feel sorry for yourself for the second. Then you will just realize that you’re sharper and healthier than everyone else and you’ll understand the TRASH (because that's what it is) that you were eating was never worth it in the first place!

You shouldn’t cut out everything that they are telling you to. They’re fallible humans, not gods. Do an elimination diet. Cut out the biggest offenders first: White sugar, white flour, caffeine, alcohol, wheat all together. Then cut them out one by one and see if it makes a difference. I was told not to eat beans, tomatoes and many other foods that are completely fine. Let the bulk of your diet be veggies and water. You will feel GREAT.

You can do it Glenn!

A helpful and wise saying:

“Eat to live (in the body), do not live to eat”

And remember:

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.”

I can appreciate Glenn’s situation, as my docs tell me the same thing. After exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam and God knows what else, I found myself with ulcerative colitis, proctitis, and diverticulosis, and I bleed off and on all the time. I’m allergic to everything Glenn mentioned, as well as chocolate, caffeine, nuts, seeds, fried foods, all dairy products, and much more. Ever since Vietnam I also suffer from severe migraines, hearing loss, and some vision loss. Plus I have a brain aneurysm that I have an MRA for every three months. I count my blessings every morning I wake up. We all play the hand that God Almighty deals us during the course of our lives. The way I look at it, this is nothing compared to those who lost limbs and more in Vietnam. Those are vets who really sacrificed. In other words, there are people with Glenn’s type of medical issues who lead what they would call normal lives...according to their life-standards. Glenn will get used to his new lifestyle and thrive, because he loves life and his family. Plus he can certainly afford to support his lifestyle change, which many of us would find challenging at times.

Glenn, so far I am gluten, nut and sugar free…I don’t know what kind of chef I would make but have been cooking all my life...so let me know if you can’t find “that chef”…maybe a cook who can keep you alive is what you need. Don’t think you are going to like it — I don’t with just the restrictions I have.

Glenn has classic food allergies. Many people suffer from this, including most chronic Lyme patients. It is caused by your body's immune system being overstimulated by the food or additives and releasing inflammatory agents and cytokines. Many doctors cannot help these things but functional medicine doctors are versed in the latest treatments and herbal remedies. Watching what you eat is a great start, too. Wish you well, Glenn.

I am an optimist. Soon after my son and husband were diagnosed with various food allergies, including gluten sensitivity, I freaked out! Cooking and bringing everyone to the table every night for a good dinner was(is) my idea for good family values.

It takes a while Glenn, but you will adjust. The pastas out there are better than the wheat brands (brown rice is my favorite). We all eat better and still love our dinners together….Your idea of getting a good chef is somewhat of a good idea but my advice is for you to be more involved and not turn it over to some cook. Good luck. You will be fine (no one loves to cook and eat more than me!!!).

Poisoning, allergies, intolerances. Fibromyalgia, auto immune diseases, lupus, celiacs, crones, ulcerative colitis, limb numbness, eye problems, skin problems…the list goes on. We are all being poisoned. Clean intake is key! Sometimes it may take Eastern influences to clear out toxins. Western usually uses more chemicals to clear the chemicals. Not a good idea. The best of luck to Mr. Beck. I went through this as well and am a super clean eater now. It’s not just intake either. Sometimes soap, detergents, cleaning chemicals, etc. are also to blame. It’s a full lifestyle change.

Duh, your doctors are recommending that you eat real food. Read "Wheat Belly" by Dr. William Davis and "Grain Brain" by Dr. David Perlmutter. That’ll get you on the right track. Just say no to grains (especially wheat), non-cheese dairy, processed foods, sugar, fructose, and other poisons. It sounds like you’ve got a chain of immune-mediated responses damaging your body. The main culprit is probably modern wheat. Read "Wheat Belly" and then inform your audience.

Your new diet will be so limited – grass-fed beef, wild fish, eggs, free range chicken, organic vegetables…you know…REAL FOOD.

Oh yeah, I implemented the changes last June and dropped 55 lbs in 5 months, regained my health, quit my 325mg daily aspirin regimen, along with the 10mg of daily Lipitor that was destroying my memory, and now feel 20 years younger with 13% body fat due to eating real food.

You can lead a horse to water…

Let us know when avoiding all those foods makes you feel better, Glenn. I think the doctors are grasping at straws because they don’t want to admit they don’t have a clue. But I can be convinced otherwise if someone else wants to be the guinea pig. So let us know if it works, especially if it stops the aging process. But even if the new diet helps, it doesn’t mean all those foods are poison. It could just be one of them, and it might only affect you.

If I got that news, I’d have an immediate headache and nausea! But just think how much weight you’ll lose. That alone could be worth it (would be for me!) HOWEVER, if you don’t have stomach issues per se, you will be able to use XYLITOL or some of the other “wood sugars.” Look it up. It’s really good for you. But you are lucky you can hire someone to cook for you. Good luck. Maybe in time you can add back some of the forbidden foods that ARE normally nutritious!

Get to a natural doctor and nutritionist as fast as you can. Conventional medicine cannot heal anyone or anything. You’ll learn a lot about what’s contributed to this in your body and what can turn it around for you. Our prayers are with you, Glenn. Disease is worse now than ever before and we’re all being poisoned with vaccines, food, GMO foods, microwaves, toxins, etc. We have to get back to natural living, natural farming, and raising animals naturally, too.

TRILO

The food in this country is making everyone sick. Our food comes from nutrient deficient soil so therefore the food is less nutrient. Then we ingest the pesticides in greater use now due to the GMO plants that survive larger doses of pesticides. Food comes from other countries that do not have our same safety standards. Fruits and vegetables are picked unripe, transported thousands of miles, then chemically ripened. To top that off most people eat an insane amount of highly processed food and beverages laden with gluten, artificial dyes, artificial flavors, preservatives, high-fructose corn syrup, GM sugar, salt, etc.

I’m thankful I live in a community with a very strong local farmers market that sells everything from organic produce, local meats, cheese and dairy.

I heard you read the list of what you CAN eat Glenn, and yowsa! Lots of success for you and your family with this – you can do it! I guess your wife was right when she said around the New Year no more sugar. Maybe you and David Barton can put together a Founder’s Cookbook since they may have eaten similarly with such a vegetable-based diet?

You have a large support group of listeners and fans who are thinking of you and wishing you all the best success!

Rebalee

Welcome to my world. You are the only person I know who has had to give up more foods than me. I know your pain. I cried for the first year a lot. Buying groceries just sucked. It felt like I was reading labels until my eyes bled. I got angry with people because they could eat things I couldn’t eat anymore. I cheated at first. But after periods without the bad foods when I would cheat it made me sick. I haven’t had to give up dairy thank God.

Glen you have all my sympathy. But in a year you will feel better. It may take longer for your digestive system to work right again if that’s part of the problems you are having. It took almost five years for me.
