A Minnesota police chief resigned from his position Saturday after he announced that he had been arrested in a prostitution sting last month.
According to KSTP-TV, former Robbinsdale chief Steven Smith was nabbed by authorities during a Feb. 20 sting aimed at catching people attempting to hire prostitutes.
The crime is classified as a misdemeanor in Minnesota.

When he was arrested, Smith did not present information showing that he was a member of law enforcement, according to police.

"It's a sad day for the city," Mayor Regan Murphy said. "Chief Smith made a great contribution the city and was a great employee. Smith stepping down was the best decision, and the city is moving on."
City council member William Blonigan said he was stunned to hear of the revelations.
"He was an exemplary employee, we are all disappointed in the situation," he told KSTP-TV.
