What a Teacher Was Allegedly Caught on Camera Doing to a Student Forced the School to Fire Her

"I almost lost it, yes, because no child should be sent to school to have to deal with that abuse from a teacher."

A cellphone video that allegedly shows a Chicago teacher assaulting a student has resulted in the instructor's termination.

The footage, obtained by WLS-TV, allegedly shows teacher Donyale Wallace dragging a 14-year-old student by the hair at the Betty Shabazz International Charter School. It was not clear when the incident took place.

The teacher then pushes the unidentified eighth grader against the wall, according to the student's mom.

"I almost lost it, yes, because no child should be sent to school to have to deal with that abuse from a teacher," the mother, who was not identified, told WLS-TV.

According to the mother, the altercation began after a loud discussion in the hallway involving her daughter and other students. She alleges the teacher singled out her daughter and verbally abused her before initiating a physical assault.

"When we send our children to school, we feel that they should be in a safe environment. And that was the last thing that I could imagine would happen to my daughter," the student's mother said.

The school's CEO said that after he reviewed the video, he had no choice but to terminate the instructor.

"There was no clear justification that I could see to keep even a quality teacher who put their hands on a child," David Ireland told WLS-TV.

WLS-TV said they were unable to reach the teacher for comment.
