Boy's Reaction Perfectly Encapsulates Exactly What It's Like to Be a Cubs Fan

The Chicago Cubs were on track to gift their historic home field just what it would want on its 100th birthday this week: a win. But in the end, they didn't deliver. Still, some would say the result was a fitting way to mark Wrigley Field's anniversary.

The 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks came after Arizona overcame the Cubs' three-run lead in the ninth inning.

And the moment was a learning experience for one young fan. As Tom Ley for Deadspin put it, the boy "[learned] exactly what it means to be a Cubs fan" Thursday.

"Get used to it, kid," one of the sportscasters joked.

"That's exactly what his grandfather looked like," another added as a nod to the field's age. "Might as well get indoctrinated now."

The loss came after an error by shortstop Starlin Castro, Martin Prado hit a two-run single off Pedro Strop (0-2), Miguel Montero had a tying single against James Russell and Aaron Hill followed with a two-run triple off Justin Grimm.

Even with this disappointing loss, the Cubs are 4,076-3,621 (.530) during the regular season at Wrigley, according to STATS, and 7-20 in the postseason.

The beloved ballpark, the second-oldest in the major leagues behind 102-year-old Fenway Park in Boston, opened on April 23, 1914, when the Federal League's Chicago Federals beat the Kansas City Packers 9-1.
