What You're About to See on Video Between an Officer and His K-9 Partner Led to the Cop Being Placed on Leave

"What the f*** is he doing?"

A K-9 police officer in Indiana was filmed allegedly lifting his dog by its collar and then hitting it with its leash, resulting in him being placed on administrative leave while the department conducts an investigation.

A video of the unidentified Hammond, Indiana, officer was uploaded to YouTube Wednesday. While one officer tended to a suspect who had his hands on the hood of a police cruiser, the other officer was filmed "whipping" the German shepherd.

"What the f*** is he doing?" the man filming the incident on his cellphone from an upstairs window said. "Look at him. Do you see that s**t?"

When the officer walked the dog back to his cruiser, it did appear that the dog was wagging its tail.

WLS-TV reported that the officer in the video was placed on administrative leave and the dog was taken from his care, pending the investigation.

"Anybody who loves dogs as much as I do is always saddened and shocked anytime you hear of a dog's abuse," Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott said in a statement. "When you find out it happened with an employee of yours, it makes it that much more shocking and disturbing."

WRTV-TV reported that the department is not releasing the officer's name because it is a personnel matter.
