Armed Crooks Brought to Justice After They Didn't Steal the One Thing That Led Police Right to Them
June 04, 2014
"This is the evidence that will assist in their [prosecution]!"
A cyclist might have been robbed at gunpoint of his bike, phone, keys and sunglasses, but what the thief didn't seem to notice was the small camera on his helmet that was recording the whole event.
The cyclist identified by a bike magazine as Malcomb Fox, was riding on a dirt path in Somerset West, South Africa, over the weekend when an armed man ran at him, pulling up his gun. Fox stopped pedaling immediately and hopped off his bike, offering it to the man demanding his valuable items.
"That's all I got on me," Fox said as two other men in cahoots with the robber ran onto the scene. "I promise."
Afterward, the men let Fox walk off unscathed as they left with his bike and other items. Thankfully, Fox wrote, he only had a few more kilometers from the end of his ride to walk.
Plus, "they did not have a clue what a GoPro was and this is the evidence that will assist in their [prosecution]!" Fox continued.

According to the South African magazine Bicycling, this footage helped police bring the robbers to justice. All were arrested and Fox's bike and other items were returned.
