Famous Comedian 'Defends' Donald Sterling in Edgy Opening Monologue at BET Awards: 'Come On!

"What did he say?"

Comedian Chris Rock tackled a number of topics during his edgy opening monologue at the BET Awards on Sunday, but none more controversial than Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling’s racist comments.

Rock joked that Sterling’s comments about black people shouldn’t even be news.

“Now let me get this straight: An 83-year-old white man doesn’t like black people. Is that news?” he said. “Come on! A black man couldn’t look him in the eye until he was 45. The first black man he ever met, he got for Christmas.”

While he made it clear he didn’t want to “defend” Sterling, Rock broke down exactly what the disgraced NBA owner actually said for the audience.

“What did he say? ‘I don’t want my woman around black basketball players.’ Me neither!” Rock joked. “Are you kidding me? Who the hell wants their woman around black basketball players?”

He went on to say he doesn’t care if his “woman” is hanging out with J.J. Redick, but there would be a problem if she was hanging around with Serge Ibaka.
