Funding for Israel's 'Iron Dome' passes House, heads to Obama's desk

In a last bit of business before leaving for the August break, the House late Friday quickly approved a resolution offering $225 million in funding for Israel's "Iron Dome" missile defense system.

The House passed the resolution with no debate, and in a 395-8 vote.

The House vote followed a equally fast vote the Senate took earlier in the day before it left for its own August break. Senate leaders in both parties agreed to the measure and said U.S. support is critical at a time when Israel is defending itself from Hamas rockets and tunnel attacks.

The Obama administration's Defense Department had recommended additional funding for Israel's defense system as attacks from Hamas picked up this year.

With passage in both the House and Senate, the resolution will head to President Barack Obama's desk for his signature into law.
