Remember How Sochi Looked During the Olympics? Well, These New Pictures Show How the City Looks Now
August 25, 2014
"There is simply nothing to do."
A Russian photographer published a series of new photos depicting Sochi, Russia last week — and they appear to reveal that the site of the $51 billion 2014 Winter Olympics has now become a "ghost town."
The pictures, taken six months after the city hosted the games, shows empty cafes, parking garages and even captures broken toilets left over from construction.
"There is simply nothing to do," wrote photographer Alexander Belenkiy on his website.
According to Belenkiy, the only place he encountered a line of people was at ski lift where some 20 individuals were waiting in line for "the dubious pleasure of a ride in a stuffy cubicle" that is not in season.
