One Teacher Is Putting a Unique Twist on Songs You're Hearing on the Radio
September 25, 2014
"The beautiful language that they’ve offered myself and my students..."
An American sign language teacher at Romeo High School in Michigan is raising awareness about deafness and sign language in a way that will probably make you smile.
According to WXYZ-TV, Brittany Adams has been creating music videos for popular songs, signing the words so the deaf community can follow along with the lyrics.
She has over 7,000 hits on her video covering "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift, and over 1,000 on a newer video covering "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit.
In an interview with WXYZ-TV, Adams said she makes the videos to make people more aware of the deaf community "and the beautiful language that they’ve offered myself and my students and everyone around us."
You can watch the music videos, below:
Adams added that soon there will be more music videos for the deaf community, since her students are making their own videos as part of their semester project.
"They will have to choose a song, interpret that for the semester, find the signs and work to the best of their ability," she said.
