A Nevada man sat down Vice President Joe Biden in Las Vegas on Monday and outlined the struggles currently facing small businesses in the United States. More specifically, the man explained to Biden why the $10.10 minimum wage hike he is pushing for could put even more pressure on small businesses.
“Everybody should make at least $10,” the man said. “But it’s real hard for most businesses, too. It’s not so easy because, see, we’re not talking $10.10, after you pay taxes and FICA and everything, I mean, we’re talking like $15.”
“Right now it’s very hard for a small business to make it, and everybody knows that it’s very hard,” he added.
The man also explained that many people, especially in Las Vegas, make their money on tips. Therefore, he continued, it could be beneficial to keep people who make tips on a different minimum wage level than other workers to avoid placing additional burdens on businesses.
