U.S. Army Specialist Shot and Killed While Reportedly On His Way to a Bible Study — and Now His Family Wants Answers

"It’s just crazy that his beautiful smile nobody’s going to be able to see anymore."

A U.S. Army specialist was shot and killed while reportedly on his way to a Bible study in Apple Valley, California, last month — and now his family is seeking information about who was responsible for the crime.

Authorities found Daniel Yarbrough, 31, inside of his vehicle on the evening of September 29, though little information is known about the events that led to his death.

His sister Feticha Oliphant described Yarbrough as a content and outgoing person, saying that she can't imagine who would have committed such a crime against him, according to KCAL-TV.

"He was real outgoing, and he just loved life, and it’s just crazy that his beautiful smile nobody’s going to be able to see anymore," Oliphant told the outlet.

Yarbrough joined the military three years ago after his mother passed away.

"That was [my mom's] last wishes for him to, you know, go ahead and serve his country," Oliphant said of her brother's Army service.

The grieving sister is planning a roadside vigil Saturday near the spot where Yarbrough was killed in an effort spark leads, as the family seeks assistance in locating the perpetrator.
