Photographer Didn't Even Notice How Close Surfer Came to Danger Until He Got Home and Watched the Video He Took

"Came up from out of the water behind the surfer like a Polaris missile..."

A photographer has seemingly captured video of a shark jumping out of the water near a surfer in southern California.

"All of a sudden that great white came up from out of the water behind the surfer like a Polaris missile," Tom Kampas, who recorded the video, said. "It all happened so quick, and I don't think that guy was even aware of it."

KTLA-5 reports that the video was taken early last week at El Porto Beach. Kampas said he didn't even realize what had happened until he got home and watched the video.

The photographer said he took the video to the Shark Research Institute, which confirmed that the creature was a great white shark. However, some commenters remain skeptical.
