Why Charles Krauthammer Says There's a 'Real Problem' With Ted Cruz's Candidacy

"...you have to have done something..."

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) may have a "liquid tongue" and strong support among the conservative base, but as he kicks off his bid for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, at least one conservative commentator is saying Cruz will have to reckon with a major shortcoming: His lack of experience and accomplishment.

"[Cruz's] real problem, I think, is this: I mean senators are going to have a hard time; first-term senators, we already tried a first-term senator," Charles Krauthammer said on Fox News' "Special Report" Monday, referencing the fact that President Barack Obama only served a single term in the Senate before being elected president in 2008.

"Cruz talks, but you have to 'walk the walk' rather than just talk the talk. You have to have done something," Krauthammer continued. "But that’s not his record in the Senate."

Cruz officially announced his candidacy with a tweet early Monday and a speech later in the day at Virginia's Liberty University.
