Homeowner Doesn't Go Down Without a Fight When a Gunman Came at Him From the Sidewalk

"There was no way he was gonna let him get away with that."

A Texas man is recovering from a gunshot wound after he was attacked Friday while outside his home working on his truck.

Surveillance video released to KHOU-TV by the man's girlfriend, who asked that she remain unidentified, shows a black man walking on the sidewalk in front of the Fort Bend County home. But when the homeowner looked down at his phone for a moment, the armed gunman went for him.

The homeowner immediately put his hands up and followed the gunman's command to get on the ground. But when the suspect pushed the homeowner to the front door, a vicious fight broke out. A different camera angle showed the scuffle as the homeowner resisted even with his hands tied behind his back.

"Orlando, he's a fighter for sure," his girlfriend told KHOU. "And there was no way he was gonna let him get away with that. I'm really proud of him."

The suspect took the man's keys and dragged him inside the home, but it wasn't long before the homeowner broke free and struggled again outside for the gun.

Watch the footage in KHOU's report:

The homeowner was shot in the incident and the suspect is still at large. The man's girlfriend released the home's surveillance footage in the hope that it will help identify the suspect.

"If anybody recognizes this guy, please speak up," she said. "Let's get him off the streets."
