Love Wins? Hardly': Blaze Readers React to Oregon Bakers Fined $135,000 for Refusing to Bake Cake for Same-Sex Couple

"The outcry over this should be deafening."

TheBlaze posted a story earlier this week about an Oregon bakery that must pay a $135,000 fine for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a lesbian wedding.

Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian ruled that Sweet Cakes By Melissa owners Melissa and Aaron Klein must pay the fine as “damages for emotional and mental suffering resulting from the denial of service.”

Oregon law prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation.

Here's what some readers of TheBlaze had to say about the issue:

I am sick of the gay agenda.

John 1776

Just have the Muslim bakery bake it for them. I’m sure there will be no problem.

What would happen if the couple decided not to pay and accept jail time instead? Wouldn’t it make Oregon look like the fools that they are? I’ll wager the negative press the state would get for this would backfire on them. There must be more than these two Christians in Oregon who would raise a voice about the unjust nature of this fine.

If the gay mafia had any class they would collect $135K from among their numbers and pay the fine as a way to make amends for their persecution of a moral and ethical couple.

Shame on us and our churches. The outcry over this should be deafening. The traffic in the Oregon capitol should come to a stop as Christians fill the streets. There should be a Christian flu that empties workplaces. And most of all, collection plates should cover this fine by the close of next week.

In the end it is not the gay agenda; it is the Marxist movement using anything it can to create dissension and chaos. They are destroying any faith anyone has in their government. It is essential to institute revolution. The homosexuals are being used just like the black community. The Marxist lefties have no intention of helping anyone out of poverty. They need poverty to survive and conquer. Many are useful idiots doing what they do for profit or blindly following the crowd. The people at the top of the pyramid know the truth and play us like a cheap drum.

It seems a bit pricy for a cake with two brides on top. I honestly think this is getting way out of hand. Why didn’t the two lesbians just go to another bakery?

They CHOSE that lifestyle, so they shouldn’t be surprised when others take exception and refuse to go along with their warped sense of self.

Yeah, I said it.

$135,000 “in damages for emotional and mental suffering resulting from the denial of service.”

What????

ASSUMING that there was a violation: WHAT KIND OF DOCUMENTATION COULD THE PLAINTIFFS SHOW TO SUBSTANTIATE THAT KIND OF INJURY??

Were they committed to an asylum for a couple of months or something?

Schmiggsy

Selfishness is what took place here. These confused girls never gave thought that the decision might destroy a family business, nor do they care. These people love themselves, and only themselves.

Love wins? Hardly. They have redefined the word "love"… I guess

MDDAWG

It’s never been about bigotry, unless you want to call it bigotry for gay people to sue bakers for not doing something that violates their religious beliefs.

It’s really about power and the LGBTQ activists trying to destroy Christians.

By the way, most of the LGBT community does not have the same agenda as the “activists.”

THEOLDAMERICANS

This is wrong. This is un-American. We should all send them one dollar. The fine will be paid and they will be rich. Wake up Americans! Stand up ! Speak up!

$135,000 “in damages for emotional and mental suffering resulting from the denial of service.”

So they suffered emotional and mental damage because someone refused to bake them a cake.

How can the government dictate the way people choose to do business? There shouldn’t even have to be a reason… Either I choose to make money on a sale, or I choose not to. It’s that simple. Government overstepping its bounds is what this is all about. Everyone should be scared of this, even arrogant progressives. It’s a slippery slope, one we don’t want to go down, except we already are… For shame.

I do hope the Kleins are countersuing based on infringement of their freedom of religion and freedom of speech. If the Kleins operated the only bakery in the state, it still would not be sufficient to overturn First Amendment rights. It’s time for folks to get behind the Kleins because this could very well end up being a landmark case — hopefully in favor of upholding the First Amendment. The Supreme Court’s decision that gay marriage is protected does not mean that the private businesses have to participate in every aspect of the wedding from soup to nuts.

steinydog

The gay crowd states “love wins,” and they are tolerant. But somebody forgot the disclaimer ("as long as your beliefs fit their agenda"). There, fixed it.

Maybe next they think it’s time a bunch of us went to reeducation camps. Bunch of hypocritical bullies.
