Hillary Clinton Finally Announces Position on Keystone XL Pipeline

"I think it is imperative that we look at the keystone pipeline as what I believe it is..."

Hillary Clinton said at an Iowa rally Tuesday that she opposes the Keystone XL pipeline.

The Democratic frontrunner called the issue a "distraction" from the global warming conversation and, therefore, said she doesn't support it.

"I think it is imperative that we look at the keystone pipeline as what I believe it is, a distraction from important work we have to do on climate change," Clinton said at the Des Moines event, "Therefore I oppose it."

The announcement came as Pope Francis arrived in the U.S. for his first visit.

Clinton had promised for weeks that she would soon announce her position on the controversial pipeline. Last week, protesters opposed to it interrupted her campaign event and demanded she oppose the project.
