"He wouldn’t know a trade deal from any other deal.”
Donald Trump was booed Friday for attacking his Republican presidential primary opponent Sen. Marco Rubio, but that didn’t stop him from taking another shot at the Florida senator Monday.
“Sen. Rubio is a lightweight,” Trump, the billionaire real estate mogul, said at the Trump Tower during his announcement of his tax plan. “We understand that. He wouldn’t be able to do this. He wouldn’t know a trade deal from any other deal.”
Rubio’s poll numbers have been increasing after strong debate performances. When Trump took questions, one was about Rubio. Trump reasserted that he has strong standing in GOP polls.
“I’m funding my own campaign. Guys like Rubio, he desperately needs money,” Trump said. “Ask the people who support him. A guy like Rubio and others, I don’t want to single him out, you’re singling him out, but they are largely controlled by the donors, the special interests and frankly, more than anybody else, the lobbyists.”
On Friday at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, Trump called Rubio a “clown” and was booed by the audience.
