Dem Congressman Alan Grayson Slams Ted Cruz: 'Call Me Crazy But I Think the President of America Should Be an American

"So now we’re counting Canadians as natural born Americans?"

Florida Congressman Alan Grayson (D) said in a radio interview on Wednesday that if Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) wins the Republican presidential nomination, then he will "file that beautiful lawsuit saying that he’s unqualified for the job."

Speaking to Fox News radio host Alan Colmes, Grayson said the Republican primary race has "resolved itself into this weird reality show."

"It’s not 'The Biggest Loser' that they’re choosing, it’s 'The Biggest Bigot,' Grayson told Colmes, referring to the Republican race.

"In a sense, I guess, Cruz is not technically that way — because technically he’s not even an American," he said. "His mother was born here, so I guess like [President Barack] Obama, it’s interesting to me that the people who had a problem with Obama’s birth certificate don’t have a problem with Ted Cruz, who literally was born in another country and renounced his Canadian citizenry."

Cruz was born in Calgary, Canada, in 1970 to an American mother and a Cuban-American father. For the majority of his life, he retained a dual-citizenship between the United States and Canada, but publicly renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2014.

"So now we’re counting Canadians as natural born Americans? How does that work?" Grayson challenged. "The Constitution says natural born Americans."

"I’m waiting for the moment that he gets the nomination and then I will file that beautiful lawsuit saying that he’s unqualified for the job because he’s in eligible," he added. "Call me crazy but I think the President of America should be an American."
