Bernie Sanders Is Destroying Clinton in a Key Demographic in Iowa

Um, wow.

One thing is clear about the race between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination: Sanders has a lock on the Iowa youth vote.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday, which surveyed Democratic voters in Iowa, Sanders has the support of nearly 4 in 5 Democrats between the ages of 18 and 44 — a key demographic. Clinton, on the other hand, is leading with older Democratic voters.

For Clinton, her biggest lead is with voters of retirement age. According to the poll, Clinton has the support of 71 percent of those who are 65 or older, while Sanders receives only 21 percent.

Among Democrats between the ages of 45 and 64, Clinton is also leading Sanders, 53 percent to 39 percent.

As ABC News reporter Ryan Struyk put it, the difference in the age gap among the two candidates is "remarkable."

The poll was comprised of answers from 606 Democratic Iowans. It has a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
