14 years and counting.
The Fox News Channel finished January as the most-watched cable news channel, marking the 14th consecutive year it has topped its competitors, according to Nielson Media Research.
The network's signature show, "The O'Reilly Factor," averaged 3.26 million total viewers in January, followed by "The Kelly File" with 2.58 million viewers. "The Five" averaged 2.37 million viewers, "Special Report With Bret Baier" 2.23 million viewers and "On the Record With Greta Van Susteren" earned 1.97 million viewers on average.
The network celebrated the achievement after marking its 20-year announcement anniversary.
On Jan. 30, 1996, News Corporation Executive Chairman Rupert Murdoch announced the launch of the Fox News Channel at a news conference.
“I would just like to say how delighted I am that we have now reached this moment, and we can firmly announce the starting of a FOX News Channel and a much greater effort on the buildup of Fox News in every area,” he told reporters.
