Police Revise Kalamazoo Death Count: Six Dead, 14-Year-Old Girl Still Alive, Suspect in Custody

"The threat to the public is over. We now have our suspect.""

UPDATE: Sunday 7:35 a.m. ET: KALAMAZOO, Mich. (CNN) - The 14-year-old girl who was shot outside of a Cracker Barrel did not die, as was previously reported. However, prosecutor Jeff Getting said she was "gravely injured."

The number of those fatally shot total six. Getting said he does not yet know of a motive, but the suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Jason Brian Dalton, according to CNN. Charges are expected on Monday.

In all, eight people were shot in three locations Saturday, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told CNN.

UPDATE: Sunday 3:03 a.m. ET: KALAMAZOO, Mich. (TheBlaze/AP) - A 14-year-old girl is the seventh person to die after shootings in Kalamazoo, police said.

A 9-year-old girl also is among those in critical condition; Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz said she was shot in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel restaurant.

A 45-year-old white male suspect from Kalamazoo County is in custody and being questioned by police.

Hinz calls the shootings at three separate locations "incomprehensible."

UPDATE: Sunday 1:58 a.m. ET: KALAMAZOO, Mich. (TheBlaze/AP) — Weapons were found in the suspect's vehicle, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told WWMT-TV, adding that the suspect didn't resist.

Asked if he was confident that the man apprehended by police in downtown Kalamazoo is the person who carried out the shootings, Matyas said: "The threat to the public is over. We now have our suspect."

UPDATE: Sunday 1:42 a.m. ET: A "strong suspect" has been caught, Michigan State Police told WOOD-TV, in connection to apparently random shootings.

Police told the station that the man they caught and his vehicle match the description they had.

UPDATE: Sunday 1:26 a.m. ET: KALAMAZOO, Mich. (TheBlaze/AP) — Police said the shootings began about 6 p.m. local time. All of the shootings were in parking lots.

UPDATE: Sunday 1:17 a.m. ET: KALAMAZOO, Mich. (TheBlaze/AP) — Police say at least three people have been injured — two critically, one seriously — in what they describe as random shootings in the area.

Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas said a manhunt is under way for a suspect described as an older white male, perhaps in his 50s, driving a dark blue vehicle.

The shootings took place on Saturday evening in parking lots at three locations — a Cracker Barrel restaurant, a vehicle dealership and an apartment complex.

Matyas says that police believe the shootings do not appear to be targeting certain people: "We have our worst case scenario," he said. "These are random murders."

Police in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, said at least six are dead after a driver randomly shot them Saturday, WOOD-TV reported.

Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas told the station authorities believe the at-large suspect is a white man driving a blue Chevy HHR.

Four people including an 8-year-old were killed at a Cracker Barrel in Texas Township; one was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the station said, adding that a father and son were fatally shot at a Kia dealership in Kalamazoo.

A woman was shot multiple times in a townhouse parking lot in Richland Township, police told WOOD.
