Chris Matthews Suffers Language Mishap on Live TV — Watch Him Try to Recover After Letting This Four-Letter Word Slip

MSNBC host Chris Matthews said President Barack Obama had to "dick around" to get Congress to pass his 2009 stimulus bill — and it isn't the first time he's used the phrase on national television.

The live TV moment happened Thursday on "Hard Ball," following a Democratic presidential town hall with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Mediaite reported.

"[Obama] killed himself to get his stimulus bill," Matthews said. "He had to dick around — dicking around — with people like Susan Collins and Arlen Specter. They whittled him down to about $800 billion. Remember?"

"And then you had Ted Kennedy alive and we lost that great man he had to deal through the reconciliation process to save health care," the host added.

This wasn't the first time Matthews has used a variation of the phrase "dick around" on national TV, though.

In 2011, he used the phrase while talking about debt ceiling negotiations. He used it again in 2012 on the night Obama was re-elected.
