Gigantic alligator nicknamed 'Hunchback' plods upon Florida nature reserve as cameras roll

Kirsti Buckley said the sight was "awe-inspiring."

"It does look prehistoric,"she told WFTS-TV, "and just watching his feet flop as they hit the ground is amazing. In my imagination I could feel the ground shake."

Buckley was speaking of a gigantic alligator — nicknamed "Hunchback" — she saw plodding along the grounds of the Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Florida, during her Sunday hike, the station said.

The gator looked to be about 15 feet long, WFTS reported.

Kim Joiner took video of alligator opposite from where Buckley was hunkered down — and most definitely not too close.

A similarly sized alligator was spotted in June on a golf course in Palmetto, about an hour southwest of Lakeland, and had many believing it was a hoax.

But it turns out alligators of such size are all too real. The Florida official record for longest alligator is over 14 feet, the Washington Post reported, citing the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
