Facebook’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg recently donated $1 million to Planned Parenthood, Refinery29 reported Wednesday.
Cecile Richards, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood, confirmed the donation to Refinery29, telling the outlet by email that she is grateful to Sandberg for "her longstanding, and now increased, support."
Grateful and inspired to have heroes like Sheryl Sandberg coming forward to #StandWithPP and fight for our patients. https://t.co/oLC8NlWqSf— Cecile Richards (@Cecile Richards) 1485970469.0

We are so thankful for the outpouring of support we’ve seen since the election by so many people willing to donate their time, money, and energy to help Planned Parenthood. It’s especially important right now, as extreme politicians want to defund and shut down Planned Parenthood, which would deny millions of people — nearly half of whom are people of color, and many people who live in rural areas — the health care they rely on. Shutting down Planned Parenthood would create a national health disaster for women.
Sandberg recently took to Facebook to criticize President Donald Trump’s reinstatement of the Mexico City policy, which prohibits foreign aid from going to nongovernmental organizations that promote or pay for abortion procedures.
Real Clear Politics recently reported that some Democratic operatives have speculated that Sandberg may be eyeing a run for office.
Planned Parenthood has claimed that it has seen a massive spike in donations following Trump’s election.
