Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted a warning about the information being released about the shooter in the harrowing school shooting Wednesday in Parkland, Florida.
"In days ahead will become increasingly evident that killer in todays #FloridaSchoolShooting gave plenty of indications of what was to come," he posted.
As more information surfaced about the suspect apprehended in the heinous shooting, it became evident that school authorities were warned about some of his violent tendencies.
A math teacher at the school told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Nikolas Cruz, a former student.
“We were told last year that he wasn’t allowed on campus with a backpack on him,” he said. “There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.”
A student who knew Cruz also told reporters that some suspected he might do something like "shoot up the school."
“A lot of people were saying that it was going to be him,” he told a local news reporter. “We actually joked around like that, saying that he would be the one to shoot up the school but it turns out you know, everyone predicted it. That’s crazy.”
“He was on the third floor,” he added, “he knows the school layout. He knows where everybody would be at. As of right now, he’s been through school drills. He’s prepared for this stuff.”
Rubio appeared to hint that more facts would surface leading to the suspicion that warning signs were ignored.
In another tweet, Rubio indicated the attack was purposely meant to cause as much loss of life as possible:
"Just finished update from fed authorities on #FloridaSchoolShooting. It is clear attack was designed & executed to maximize loss of life," he said.
Seventeen people were killed in the attack that involved the use of an AR-15 rifle.
