New poll finds Biden is trailing Trump in seven key swing states — and the Biden campaign ignores the warning signs

President Joe Biden is trailing Donald Trump by sizable margins in critical swing states, according to a new Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll.

The poll surveyed 4,935 registered voters in seven battleground states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — and discovered that Trump is leading Biden in all seven by an average of five percentage points.

  • Arizona: Trump leads by four points, 46% to 42%
  • Georgia: Trump leads by six points, 49% to 43%
  • Michigan: Trump leads by four points, 46% to 42%
  • Nevada: Trump leads by three points, 47% to 44%
  • North Carolina: Trump leads by nine points, 49% to 40%
  • Pennsylvania: Trump leads by two points, 46% to 44%
  • Wisconsin: Trump leads by four points, 45% to 41%

The results, which a New York Times poll essentially recreated last month, is significant for two reasons.

First, these are the states that a candidate must win if they want to become president. Yes, the election is still more than 10 months away, but the poll is a finger on the pulse of the electorate that will decide if Biden wins re-election or if Republicans regain control of the White House. These results, then, are nothing to sneeze at.

Second, Biden won six of the seven states in the 2020 presidential election (losing only North Carolina). That so many voters have soured on his presidency is an omen for his re-election hopes.

Trump is beating Biden, according to the poll, because Americans trust him over Biden on the issues that matter most, including: the economy, immigration and the border crisis, crime, China, the Ukraine war, and Israel's war with Hamas. Biden, on the other hand, bests Trump on issues like abortion, health care, and climate change.

Members of Biden's campaign are dismissing the poll's results and other similar surveys, telling Bloomberg News they are not concerned with polls this far out from Election Day.

"Instead of worrying about polls a year out, our campaign is focused on earning every vote and highlighting the stakes between the extreme MAGA agenda and President Biden’s popular agenda that has delivered for young people, and Americans of all ages," a Biden campaign spokesperson said.

Whether that attitude is ultimately to their detriment remains to be seen. But, eventually, you cannot keep ignoring the polls if nearly every major survey is finding the same results.
