Security camera shows school bus blow through stop sign and get hit by city bus, 6 people hurt

A doorbell video camera caught the moment that a school bus blew past a stop sign and got hit by a city bus in Racine, Wisconsin.

The school bus had no student passengers at the time, but six people were injured in the crash.

The school bus was hit by the city bus at the intersection of Goold Street and Shoop Street on Wednesday afternoon. Video shows the bus rolling onto its side after the collision.

Police said there was a 61-year-old male driver on the bus as well as a 26-year-old driver’s aide/monitor. The driver has worked for the First Student bus company for four years while the monitor has worked for the company for two years.

The city bus had six passengers and a driver at the time of the crash.

Two of the people in the crash had to be extricated from their vehicles, according to police. Of the nine people involved, six were injured, two of whom were seriously hurt.

Residents of the neighborhood told WITI-TV that a tree obscures the view of the stop sign for drivers.

"I’ve seen people blow that stop sign multiple times because that tree’s in the way because they’re not familiar with the area," said Bryan Zimmerman.

"It could've been worse," he added. "It could've been much worse."

The cause of the crash is still being investigated by police.

"On behalf of the District, our hearts are with those who were injured, and we are waiting for an update on their condition," said a spokesperson for the school district.

Zimmerman said the crash was a "little traumatizing."
