Nevada county to consider banning COVID-19 and flu vaccines

The health board for Elko County, Nevada, will meet to discuss whether or not it should consider placing a moratorium on the COVID-19 and flu vaccines in the county, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Also on the agenda for the Elko County Board of Health is the discontinuation of local advertising for the COVID-19 and flu vaccines.

The agenda, according to the Review-Journal, says that the considerations will be made pending “further investigation and results of the Florida Supreme Court case to investigate the [wrongdoing] related to COVID-19 vaccines.”

In late December 2022, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis petitioned the state's supreme court for an order to impanel a statewide grand jury to probe any wrongdoing related to COVID-19 vaccines.

Jon Karr, an Elko County Board of Health Commissioner, allegedly said that the item should have never been added to the agenda and that he does not see it progressing.

“We’ve already been notified by legal that we don’t have the authority to issue a moratorium,” Karr said according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“I believe it’s just a miscommunication, and I’m hoping it gets tabled indefinitely,” he added.

According to the report, a resident raised concerns about vaccine side effects, such as heart problems and inflation, pointing to Gov. DeSantis setting forth an investigation into the vaccines. The report says Karr claimed the citizen also referred to "right-wing editorials."

“People can get the vaccine, or they can choose not to get the vaccine,” Karr said, positioning the argument as an issue of choice.

“You have the right to work with your doctor and choose which vaccines you should and should not get. … Not some rural commissioners who have more insight.”

In 2021, a store in British Columbia, Canada, attempted to ban anyone who had received a COVID vaccine from entering its establishment.

In April 2022, Denmark became the first country to end it's COVID vaccination program after stating that the virus had been brought under control.
