Hamas leader who faked death in 2014 organized Oct. 7 attack: Report

A key Hamas leader who was thought to be dead for years is now believed by Israeli intelligence to have played a pivotal part in planning the October 7 attacks against Israel.

Mohammed Sinwar, who is the younger brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, was initially declared dead in 2014. The terrorist group even released an image of Mohammed lying in a bed soaked with blood, per the Telegraph.

Now, Israeli spies believe that Mohammed is still alive, living within the complex tunnel system beneath Gaza. A former Mossad counterterror chief said that Mohammed was "100 percent one of the core team who planned October 7."

Hamas' attack against Israel in early October resulted in the deaths of 1,200 Jews, and another 200 hostages were taken back into Gaza. Hamas militants used air, land, and sea to carry out the horrific slaughter.

The former Mossad chief said that Mohammed is among the most wanted within Hamas' ranks, adding: "He's around number seven on the wanted list, alongside the likes of Mohammed Deif, Marwan Issa, and Tawfiq Abu Naim. He's an important figure and he's still alive for sure."

Mohammed has been known to secure the release of Palestinian prisoners in Israel through border infiltration and kidnappings, Ronen Solomon, an independent intelligence analyst, said, according to Business Insider.

Solomon went on to say that Mohammed has survived more than six assassination attempts over the past twenty years, which prompted him to go into hiding to keep himself safe.

The younger Sinwar brother has not been seen in public since the announcement of his alleged death in 2014.

The IDF seemed to point toward the possibility of Mohammed still being alive in a recent social media post on X: "The IDF Artillery Corps’ 7th Brigade conducted operational activities in a Hamas military post and a training compound in Gaza."

"During the activities, the soldiers searched the office of Muhammad Sinwar, brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, where military doctrine documents were located. Additionally, soldiers secured buildings and siezed dozens of weapons including: missiles, UAVs, maps, communication devices, mortars, attack drones and technological assets."

"The troops eliminated approximately 30 terrorists."

The former Mossad chief added that Mohammed played a key role in the release of his older brother from an Israeli prison in 2011. Yahya is currently Israel's most wanted target.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has characterized Yahya as a "dead man walking," noting that the Hamas militant is apparently surrounded inside a bunker.
