'Crazed' man intentionally rams car into mom pushing baby stroller in Walmart parting lot then attacks bystander with a crowbar, police say

Police said that a man intentionally rammed his car into a woman pushing her baby in a stroller in a Walmart parking lot and then attacked a bystander with a crowbar.

The harrowing incident unfolded at a Walmart in Mililani, Hawaii, at about 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Honolulu police said that the 37-year-old woman was walking with her 6-month-old baby in the lot when the man drove into her and dragged her body for about 15 feet.

A 40-year-old man saw the attack and tried to help the woman, but the driver hopped out of his car and allegedly attacked him and the woman with a “dangerous instrument," as described by police.

Witnesses said it was either a crowbar or a tire iron.

Suzanne Young witnessed the attack and spoke to KHNL-TV about what she saw.

"I was driving down this lane here, I heard a crash noise and this red car thrust forward. And I got out of my car to see if, you know, if anybody was OK, or what, and when I got close, I saw a man with a crowbar beating a man that was on the ground,” said Young.

"Practically to death. I mean, he was all bloody. The guy with the crowbar was hitting him all over his body, all over his head. The guy was despondent, you know, he was dazed, you know," she added.

She said she walked around and saw the woman who had been hit by the car.

"And I went to look over there, oh my God it was terrible, it looked like her legs were practically severed," she added.

Young said that she and another bystander went over to the driver who was beating the man and pleaded with him to stop.

"And he just wouldn't. He just wouldn't, he was just crazed. You know, just crazed. Nonstop beating this fella," she concluded.

Video captured the man struggling with police when they tried to apprehend him. He sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.

Honolulu police later identified the man as 46-year-old Desmond Kekahuna. He was arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

Emergency workers rushed the woman to a hospital in critical condition while the man was in serious condition.

Police said the child was not harmed.
