Hillary Clinton warns Dems will lose if they focus on unpopular issues like transgender rights

Transgender activists were furious at her comments

Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton warned that Democrats could lose more elections if they focused too much on unpopular issues like transgender rights, and some on the left are outraged.

Clinton made the comments in an interview with the Financial Times.

“We are standing on the precipice of losing our democracy, and everything that everybody else cares about then goes out the window,” Clinton said. “Look, the most important thing is to win the next election. The alternative is so frightening that whatever does not help you win should not be a priority.”

She also shot down support for the "Defund the Police" movement related to Black Lives Matter.

“You need accountable measures. But you also need policing. It doesn’t even pass the common-sense politics test not to believe that. Some positions are so extreme on both the right and the left that they retreat to their corners," Clinton explained.

"Politics should be the art of addition not subtraction," she added.

Transgender activists and their allies were outraged at Clinton's comments and they took to social media to register their displeasure.

"Hillary Clinton has always been a transphobic piece of s*** & it's wild that supporters really tried to gaslight ppl to defend her heinous record in 2016 & make it seem like she was some sort of icon in the LGBTQ+ community," said one angry critic.

"Democrats do themselves a disservice by not cutting the clintons off. Bill is a literal pedophile and hillary is a polarizing noxious figure who emerges routinely to say positions held by the majority of dem voters are stupid and that marginalized communities need to f*** off," replied another detractor.

Others accused Clinton of being a TERF, which stands for "transgender exclusionary radical feminist," an epithet used by transgender activists to attack those who question their political agenda.

"Hillary Clinton is a terf. Always has been. Her recent comment about not making trans issues an important issue in Democratic races is not because she just wants to win votes, it's because she actually hates the trans community. Don't get it twisted," read one response.

"Hillary Clinton follows the natural path for neolibs whose feelings get hurt by the left: becoming a TERF edgelord," responded one user describing themselves as a "queer lawyer."

Clinton has previously made similar comments that outraged the left.

"Well, I do think there is a legitimate concern about women's lived experience and the importance of recognizing that, and also the importance of recognizing the self-identification," said Clinton in 2019.

She was accused of transphobia and bigotry for the relatively tame observation.
