ICE arrests 3 illegal aliens in Rhode Island in connection with death of baby who suffered significant bruising on face

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested three illegal aliens in connection with the death of a baby, who allegedly suffered significant bruising on his face.

Police reportedly responded to the Rhode Island residence of the illegal immigrants and discovered the baby boy unresponsive with "significant bruising on his face."

The infant was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On Feb. 11, officers with the Pawtucket Police Department arrested three women in connection with the baby's death.

The women – aged 32, 25, and 22 – were charged with felony child endangerment.

Following their arraignment, all three women posted bail and were released by the 6th Division District Court of Rhode Island.

On Feb. 17, officers from ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations apprehended the three female illegal immigrants in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The suspects – Portuguese nationals in the United States illegally – were arrested in connection with the death of a 1-year-old infant, death, which reportedly occurred under their care.

"One of the three female Portuguese nationals had been admitted on a nonimmigrant tourist visitor in April 1998 and unlawfully remained in the United States more than 25 years beyond the allowable terms of her visa," ICE said in a statement. "The other two Portuguese nationals were admitted to the United States under a visa waiver program — one in July 2016 and the other in March 2022. Both violated the terms of their visa waivers by remaining in the country longer than allowed."

Pawtucket Police also arrested a 25-year-old man alleged to be the child's father. He was charged with manslaughter, three counts of second-degree child abuse, and child endangerment.

The child’s alleged father is being detained at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston, Rhode Island.

ERO Boston Field Office Director Todd M. Lyons said in a press release, "The alleged crimes of these unlawfully present individuals resulted in the death of an innocent child. Those who commit crimes against children must be held accountable. Unlawfully present foreign nationals posing a danger to our New England communities cannot expect to escape the consequences of their actions."

ICE recently announced a staggering number of illegal immigrants who were arrested for sex crimes last month.

Between Feb. 5 and 16, 2024, ICE arrested "275 unlawfully present noncitizen sex offenders during a nationwide law enforcement effort."

"ICE is committed to protecting America through the arrest and removal of those who undermine public safety and disregard our laws," said ICE Deputy Director and Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Director Patrick J. Lechleitner. "Thanks to the around-the-clock efforts of our Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers, our communities are safe from 275 individuals who have demonstrated their willingness to commit sex crimes against innocent people, including children."
