Jim Acosta says he still has 'marks' on his back from standing up to Trump

CNN anchor Jim Acosta joked that he still has "marks" on his back from standing up to former President Donald Trump.

He made the comments to Don Lemon on CNN Monday while discussing the controversy over President Joe Biden cursing at Fox News reporter Peter Doocy after he pressed him about inflation. Biden appeared to mutter "son of a b***h" at Doocy and it was caught on a hot mic.

"As someone who witnessed the unraveling of our democracy, had a front row seat to it … is it better? Worse? Can we turn this around in your estimation? You were the White House correspondent for the entire Trump reign," asked Lemon.

"Yeah. And I've got the marks on my back to prove it, Don," Acosta replied.

"To some extent things are better. I mean, today we had the president of the United States refer to a reporter as an SOB," he continued.

"You know, Don, you and I got called a lot worse back in the day," Acosta said. "We never got an apology. I don’t remember that from the commander-in-chief. So maybe things are a little bit better to some extent."

Doocy said that Biden later called him to apologize over the insult and added, "It's nothing personal pal."

Critics of the media contrasted their histrionics whenever Trump attacked journalists to that of Doocy, who later laughed off the insult from Biden.

"Reporters at other networks, if it happened to them, would be screaming about threats to democracy and how by God he's a reporter and the First Amendment is under attack," tweeted radio talk show host Erick Erickson. "Be like Peter Doocey, not Jim Acosta."
