'More and more people are encouraging me to consider' a presidential bid, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan says
July 12, 2022
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan told CBS News that "More and more people are encouraging" him to contemplate a White House bid.
"More and more people are encouraging me to consider it," the governor said, according to CBS News. "There's a diminishing number of folks that are wanting the former President Trump to run. There's a growing number of people that are looking for our kind of successful, bigger-tent politics."
Hogan is a Republican who entered office in 2015, won re-election in 2018, and will leave office in early January 2023.
"Great crowd tonight for our @NoLabelsOrg event at the Puritan Backroom in Manchester to kick off our New Hampshire visit. Americans are fed up with politics-as-usual and want to move in a different direction," Hogan tweeted on Monday.
"Enjoyed meeting with the New Hampshire Investment Board of Realtors to hear about the challenges they’re facing in this economy and discuss how we can get the national inflation crisis under control," he tweeted on Tuesday.

Hogan told Fox News that his decision about whether to run for president will be based on if he sees a path to win — he said that he will not "go on a wild goose chase or a suicide mission."
Former President Donald Trump is widely expected to run for president again, so if Hogan decides to launch a White House bid, he would likely need to defeat Trump in order to secure the GOP nomination.
During an appearance on "Meet the Press," Hogan said that he is "hopeful" that Trump will not run and that Trump will not become the Republican nominee in the event that he does run again.
Billionaire Elon Musk opined in a tweet on Monday that if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and President Joe Biden were to face off in 2024, DeSantis would "easily win" and would not "even need to campaign."
Biden has indicated that he plans to run again as long as he has "good health."
DeSantis has not announced a presidential bid, but is seeking re-election this year in Florida's gubernatorial contest.
