Missing Florida woman found dead in storage unit: Report

A Florida woman who had not been seen in more than a week was found dead in a storage unit. She was last seen on November 11.

Fox News Digital reported that Shakeira Rucker, 37, is believed to have been last seen more than a week ago. Her body was discovered Saturday, quickly turning her disappearance into a murder investigation.

The authorities were notified about an odor that was coming from a storage unit located in Apopka, on 2400 Wiggins Road. Deputies appeared on the scene close to 5:00 p.m.

On Saturday, the Orange County Sheriff's Office posted an update on X, writing: "UPDATE: Earlier today, OCSO deputies responded to the Self Storage at 2400 Wiggins Rd. in Apopka and found Shakeira Rucker dead inside a storage unit. This is now an Orange County homicide case. Shakeira’s family was notified this evening. We grieve with them & our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case."

OCSO posted to Facebook, writing, "Shakeira's family was notified this evening." They went on to say that "[w]e grieve with them [and] our detectives are committed to bringing them justice in this case."

According to WOFL, Rucker was last seen leaving her residence with her estranged husband, who has been identified as Cory Hill. Following this revelation, Hill was quickly made a person of interest in the investigation.

Rucker and Hill were seen on surveillance footage leaving a restaurant in Polk County on the night she went missing. Hill is currently sitting in jail in Orange County for an unrelated murder charge, and he has reportedly refused to speak with the authorities about Rucker's disappearance.

"I just want my mom to come back," Mikayla Rucker, Shakeira's 16-year-old daughter, said. "It's hard, her not being here, because I'm always with her. It's like I can't live without her. She's all I know."

WESH previously reported that upon looking into out-of-state records, it was discovered that Hill had previously been convicted and sent to prison for murder. There was reportedly a video from December 1992 in Suffolk, Virginia, which described how Hill's vehicle was stolen with his 23-month-old daughter inside.

Though the baby was thrown out the window, she survived.

As result, Hill sought revenge against suspect Dontwoine Everett. Hill apparently showed up to Everett's residence with a firearm and began arguing. The altercation resulted in Hill fatally shooting Everett.

Virginia court records indicate Hill was indicted on second-degree murder charges. He was eventually convicted and slapped with a 20-year prison sentence.
