Oakland man with rap sheet allegedly opened fire on nearby cars, killing 1 woman, because he was 'frustrated' with all the street noise

A convicted felon living in Oakland, California, now faces a slew of new felony charges after he allegedly shot and killed a woman because he was "frustrated" with all the street noise in his neighborhood.

At around 2:30 a.m. last Saturday, 21-year-old Maria Villa Bedford was driving along MacArthur Boulevard near 95th Avenue in Oakland when she was struck with a bullet and soon afterward crashed her Mercedes. She later died.

According to Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, police already know the person who is responsible for Bedford's death: 39-year-old Bernard Jimmerson. Jimmerson, who previously served time for an unidentified felony, reportedly admitted to the crime, telling authorities that he "was frustrated by the noise of cars racing up and down his street in the middle of the night." His frustration eventually drove him to grab a rifle and fire at random motorists passing by, Price alleged.

Price stated unequivocally that Bedford was not making undue noise or otherwise contributing to the street sounds that had apparently so enraged the suspect. "[Bedford's] murder is heartbreaking and absolutely unacceptable," Price said in a video statement released to Twitter. "There are too many guns in this community, and there are too many people who are too quick to use a gun, believing they have the right to use a gun when they do not. It needs to stop."

Investigators reportedly recovered spent shell casings from a rifle outside Jimmerson's apartment complex. Inside his residence, they reportedly found two AR-15 rifles, two handguns, high-capacity rifle magazines, 194 loose rounds, and body armor. Many of those items were improperly stored and therefore accessible to Jimmerson's two children, ages 2 and 4. Jimmerson is also not allowed to own many of those items because of his criminal record.

Jimmerson has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon, and a gun enhancement. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 11.
