Student tip thwarted violent attack allegedly plotted by 18-year-old against students at Christian high school in California

An 18-year-old was arrested for allegedly plotting a violent attack at a Christian school in California, and law enforcement officials found out about it from a fellow student.

Ontario police said that they were contacted by officials at the Ontario Christian High School after being tipped off on Thursday about a student plotting an attack.

The student was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of carrying out violent threats.

Officials confirmed that numerous weapons were found at his home but initially did not divulge what kind of weapons they found.

KABC-TV reported that there was a large police presence at the school on Wednesday in order to make parents and students feel safe.

"We'd like to thank law enforcement for responding so quickly and to thank the school community for being vigilant and informing the school of a possible threat," said Len Fakkema, the superintendent of the Ontario Christian School Association. "I'd like to encourage parents to talk to their children, that if they see something to say something."

The suspect was behind bars and ineligible for bail, according to KABC.

He was later charged with one count of making an attempted criminal threat, and five counts of attempted murder, implying that he was specifically targeting five people in his alleged plot.

Officials later said at a media briefing that the suspect had targeted at least five students at the school.

"All of the potential victims are students of Ontario Christian High School," said police.

Police also revealed that they had found more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition at the suspect's home as well as seven rifles, two revolvers, one handgun, and one shotgun.

They praised the student who tipped off officials and led to the suspect's arrest.

"To be clear, the student who came forward... is a hero. That student saved lives, spared families from losing their children and a community from being devastated from a senseless act of violence," police said.
