Leftist Seth Meyers pummeled after 'apology' to Lauren Boebert for thinking 'AR' in AR-15 stands for 'assault rifle,' then admitting 'I'm sorry for not giving a f***'

Leftist Seth Meyers issued a mocking "apology" to Republican U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert on his late-night TV show Monday for often incorrectly believing the "AR" in AR-15 stands for "assault rifle" — then saying "I'm sorry I don't give a f***."

What are the details?

During Meyers' “A Closer Look” segment, he called the Republican Party a “collection of ghoulish con men and weirdos saying and doing whatever they think they can get away with to gain and hold on to power."

He added Boebert's name to his list, calling out the Colorado congresswoman's "incredibly dumb retort" on gun nomenclature in the face of calls for more gun control.

“If your Representative thinks AR stands for ‘Assault Rifle’, FIRE THEM!” Boebert tweeted Sunday.

With that, Meyers went in for the kill: "Yes, it's true, it stands for 'ArmaLite Rifle,' and as someone who has made that mistake myself in the past, I would just like to issue this sincere apology to Lauren Boebert, 'I'm sorry for not giving a f***.'"

The crowd loved it.

He added, "I love that the same people who say, ‘I don’t care what your pronouns are' also say, ‘Don’t get the name of my gun wrong! My gun has feelings, too!'”

How did folks react to Meyers?

While the late-night TV host got plenty of left-wing support for ripping into Boebert, not everyone commenting on a story from TheWrap about his put down were pleased:

  • "I love how people that have no experience with or knowledge of guns or the laws surrounding them like to offer up their expertise on the subject," one commenter wrote. "The History of Governments disarming their citizens is not a good one and definitely not something we as Americans should want for ourselves or our country."
  • "So here's the problem...not caring is one thing, but when you spread misinformation, then it becomes a problem," another commenter said of Meyers. "If you don't understand something, ask; but when you're in a position to have what you say heard by millions, then you have to accept the good with the bad, but it goes a lot further for your credibility when you admit when you're wrong rather than deflecting and going on the offensive....and that goes way beyond the gun debate."
  • "It is amazing how these shows that were for entertainment have turned into political smear campaigns and party talking points," another commenter observed.
  • "Just shows how the anti-gun lobby (special interest groups and their followers) latch on to anything without discovering the truth," another commenter said.
  • "... Mr. Meyers[,] it is a fact that 'AR' does not stand for 'assault rifle,' and it is fiction that you can suddenly become a different gender. I know, I know...it's those pesky facts again that are hurting your feelings," another commenter wrote.
  • "So, here is an idea: Let's make Seth Meyers' show a gun-free zone and not pay for armed security and see how many shows he does," another commenter said.
  • "He should apologize as it demonstrates how little he knows about the subject. Yet he continues to try to inform people about firearms as if he has something important to say," another commenter noted. "He is complicit in spreading misinformation, which is apparently only an issue when right wingers do it."
  • "I will go along with all the gun control BS the progressives are pushing, but only if politicians cannot have armed security," another commenter declared. "They have to be out in the general population unarmed, just like the rest of us."
