Texas official switches to GOP over Democratic Party’s ineffective response to ‘unprecedented’ border crisis

A Texas county official confirmed over the weekend that she is leaving the Democratic Party and switching to the GOP, Fox News Digital reported.

Kleberg County Attorney Kira Talip Sanchez cited the Democratic Party’s ineffective response to the “unprecedented” border crisis as the primary reason for her switch.

In a recent statement, Sanchez said, “As County Attorney, I have been proud to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of the citizens of Kleberg County.”

“There is an unprecedented crisis at our Southern Border. I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County. I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe,” Sanchez added.

The county attorney made the announcement during a 2024 Election Season Kickoff event hosted by the Hispanic Republicans of Texas PAC.

Voted into office in 2014, Sanchez oversees the county’s Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force, which “plays a vital role in intercepting deadly drugs coming through the Southern Border before distribution,” the HRT stated.

Kleberg County is a historically left-leaning area but voted for former Republican Presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump. The county is located in the southern part of the state and is directly impacted by the migrant crisis at the border.

The HRT noted the wave of voters and political candidates in south Texas switching to the GOP.

“Voters and even candidates are switching to the Republican Party because Democrats no longer serve their interests,” said HRT President Cassy Garcia. “The best way to continue bringing folks over to the Republican Party is to keep pursuing policies that promote economic prosperity, keep our country safe, and support freedom. I’d like to thank Attorney Talip Sanchez for joining us tonight and for her work to [sic] for Kleberg County, and I am excited to continue our outreach across Texas to bring more voters to the Republican Party.”

Garcia told Fox News Digital that the Democratic Party had become “too radical, elitist, and out of touch with our values.”

“Every day, we are meeting with people who have voted for Democrats for decades but that this is no longer their abuelos’ Democratic Party,” Garcia added.
